Water early or late
Water in the early morning or in the evening. Midday watering loses more water to evaporation before it reaches the roots.
Water deeply, not often
A deeper, less frequent soak encourages roots to grow down. Frequent light sprinkling keeps the roots near the surface, where they dry out fast.
Established shrubs and trees usually need watering less often than a lawn or newly planted beds.
Check the irrigation while it runs
Drip lines and sprinklers do not stay in perfect order. Blocked emitters, leaks and a timer set in spring and never changed are common reasons for dry patches and soggy corners.
Walk the garden while the system is running and look for both.
Mulch and group plants by need
A layer of mulch or gravel over the soil slows evaporation. Plants with similar water needs are also easier to water correctly when they are grouped together.
When to ask for help
Our Standard and Premium packages include an irrigation check and timing adjustment. If you are not sure your system is doing its job, ask us for a quote.
